IT'S BEEN A LONG ROAD

Thanks for experiencing our music video.

2020 was the start of a tremulant time for Hearse Pileup, I lost my voice in the middle of the pandemic. We couldn't perform, and all I had to fall back on was expressing my creativity through coding and drawing. It was very difficult to deal with, and finally being in the position to release this to the public is incredibly cathartic. Whilst I'm not sure when my voice will be back to normal, I'll try and keep updates coming on our website and socials. The wait until the next time I get to shout at you all again is EXCRUCIATING.

By the time you read this there should also be a series of posts up (somewhere) explaining how I built this little game. If you have any questions feel free to contact either the band or my personal account on mastodon, or (if you really have to) on the social media channel of your choice.

This is the first time I have ever made a complete game, despite having started multiple times and giving up each time. The code and all assets will be released publicly soon and I hope, if you've also tried and failed to make a game before, being able to inspect the project top to bottom gives you inspiration and/or drive to complete your project too.

One piece of advice I'd have for anyone seeking to do something similar is that a problem shared is a problem halved. Whilst I can't advise you to lower your ambition without being a hypocrite, the amount of extra time I invested in this project because I had a highly specific vision is kind of unreal. This could have been mitigated by having a development team larger than one person!

I've already credited people for their contributions to this project, and if you haven't read over them yet I would encourage you to. However I'd like to add one extra thankyou to my wife Vixx for dealing with me, my stresses, and my constant fixation on getting this finished. I know I've not always been easy to be around as a result, for this and for work on projects in the band in general. I'm very lucky to have someone who is so understanding.

If you've read this far, you have my thanks also.

Until next time,
-Matt Gaffen
